The goal of this assignment was to introspectively engage with Oxford. It required a balance of going out into the world to discover and taking time to reflect on these new experiences. Most obviously, this project targeted written communication because we were expected to be producing new writing nearly every day. Additionally, we focused on visual communication through the integration of visuals within the larger work. Oral communication was an important skill for members of the class who presented their work in front of the class. I felt extremely nervous before presenting, but I am extremely glad I was pushed to stretch myself in this way. It is a skill I am openly working to improve, and after presenting, I felt more comfortable with the class at large. My purpose was to create a sort of time capsule. I did this by including a wide variety of seemingly scattered topics and subjects that all prompted me to have an emotional response. This random but mysteriously connected nature felt true to the Zuihitsu form, which I capitalized on. The primary audience for my work was our English 1101 class. This was a fitting audience because it gave me a medium to share my study abroad experience with my peers. This project highlighted the fact that as a cohort we are undergoing many similar, if not identical, activities and excursions, but our experiences are distinctive. With more time, I would like to have included more of my relationships with my family. My family is integral to my identity, so having a glimpse into my familial relationships could provide relevant insight to readers.
